Goodbye Buffalo - Hello, Ohio?

The big day before many upcoming big days was upon us.
The moving truck.
Finally we were starting our journey.
It was getting real.
Looking back now (as I type this from my bed in North Carolina)... It went so fast (these few days when we had the moving truck). Seemed like we waited forever to get the truck, fill the truck, and  then the day was here.
The kids thought it was great. Hopping around in the truck and even helping us move some boxes.
Daddy and I loaded what we could by ourselves, and I got the kids (and I ) ready for the drive to Ohio. We decided it would be easier if I took the kids by myself to Ohio for about a week, and Daddy would do all the dirty work, close up the house, move the truck and one of our cars down south first. Then fly to Ohio and we'd all make the long drive together once everything was in our house that we are renting.

Leaving Buffalo is bittersweet.
We know where we've been trying to be for a long time. We fell in love down here .. we had Samantha here. Its not strange to us, its familiar territory. But nothing will replace the 5 years we had in Buffalo. We had good times (mostly) and some trying times too.. Each a growing period that brought us to this very moment in time.

The house sold in 1 day. We moved all our stuff out 6 weeks later.. and we were on our way to our new chapter.
I was kind of dreading a 4 hour drive by myself with two kids.
But it was pretty darn easy.
Samantha was my little Momma, wiping her brother's nose when he sneezed, handing him tissues, and toys, and drinks, and sharing snacks while they watched DVD's

It poured like crazy the WHOLE way.
In Erie I felt like we were in a snow storm at one point I could hardly see in front of me.
But they were good.
They both slept a little. And we made it to Ohio in just under 3.5 hours.
We were reunited with our little furry guy who is staying in Ohio until we have a permanent place here and its ok for him to come down. The kids really loved seeing and torturing him. The poor guy.
We kept busy while Daddy moved us.
we played with his old cars he loved when he was a kid.
we discovered our love of fans, turning on lights, and stuffing tissues inside fans
This guy also decided to begin potty training on his own.
I wasnt planning on turning up the heat on this subject until we arrived and got settled in NC. But this was ALL On him. He was doing great. I kept him in diapers though.. but kept asking him if he needed to go, and he was staying dry for 6+ hours at a time.
We visited a few parks, Samantha had a fun sleepover with her cousins, we ate some great food every single day, and made some cookies (Oat Cakes) Andrew's favorite.
We went to their cousin's house for grilled pizzas one night, followed by the annual "beating of Paw" which all grandchildren love.
And since he was really into this potty training thing, and bribery was/is the name of the game, I found these awesome vitamin C "popcicles" lollies at Home Goods when Andrew and I went shopping one day. He continued to do great all week, and was so proud to show Daddy when he got there.
For a treat, the last day we were in Ohio, we took the kids, and met the cousins at this cute little (and old) kiddie park. It was similar to the park we took the kids to in Olcott by our old house.. cheap rides and all little kid style. My kids are suckers for carnivals.
We were a little nervous about putting Andrew on this little roller coaster.
Just cause it was the fastest and a little jerky.. But he LOVED it. Was laughing and screaming the whole time. Carnival junkie, all the way.
He loved it so much that he and I stayed so he could ride more rides, and the girls and the Daddies.. went to lunch.
He quickly passed out on the way home.
Success..
We had one last yummy steak dinner that evening, and then all went to bed early and set our alarms for 4:00am. Yes thats right, 4 AM. (Yawwwwn*)

Our Christmas

Our Christmas season was great!
Well... let me say that we were ALL sick as dogs the week before. Sam missed 4 out of 5 days of school and slid back into the last day before break but barely made it through.. It was the cold that never ended... again.. But by the weekend we were all feeling better, thank goodness.. and it was on with Christmas!!!

It was nice and warm... well... not 10 degrees this year, but in the 50's!
We didnt have any snow, and I was never more happy!

I made some homemade crafty gifts as I always do.
Pepperimint & Mistletoe Soaps all fancy with ribbon and tinsel.
I sold a few batches as well, it was a hot item!
As part of the teacher gifts this year I made homemade marshmallows, they turned out so good. See the previous post for the recipe
One of my favorite parts of making gifts is spending crafty time on the tags and decorating them with wrapping and ribbon and pretty things.
I really think Samantha enjoyed giving her gifts to her teachers and bus drivers
We made cookies, ginger, cutouts, and crescents. And fudge and marshmallows... I couldnt stop.
I think that
Sweets were everywhere this season.
Our annual family round robin party was so much fun.
The dessert house is always my favorite.
Cannoli Dip ... OMG.. We all just stood there and couldnt stop eating it!
It was such a wonderful and mild Christmas season.
Cousins
The few days before Christmas I attempted the Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Rolls
They were quite a feat, but so so worth it.
My little helper made sure we got the icing just right.
He loves pulling up his little chair to help Mama
I froze two pans.. and gave away about 5.
Just something yummy for us and our friends and neighbors to warm up on Christmas Day or whenever..  I think Samantha really understood the whole "season of giving" as I tried to explain that it is just nice to do things just because ... and the reason we celebrate Christmas .... and its not all about the presents.. hopefully some of what I was rambling set in.. but i know, she's only 5.. ha!
Samantha got to have a little sleepover at Grammy's house the night before Christmas Eve.
So Daddy and I got to treat this little guy to a fruit whip and a date with just us.

Santa delivered this year.
He was generous.
Before Christmas, I went up to Ikea Canada, and got the kids a ton of stuff to make their rooms more cozy.. (not pictured).. and Samantha got one of her big gifts.. a new big girl desk for her room. So the kids got a lot of gifts right before the big day.. lucky them, huh?

They loved everything under the tree, and Samantha really got it this year.
She kept saying she was going to sneak out of her bed and check for Santa.. hahah.. I remember thinking the same way when I was her age too.. I love all the magic Christmas brings.

Christmas Day, like last year.. we opened presents and then headed to Ohio.
The roads were empty and the ride was smooth sailing.
We spent our time enjoying wonderful food.. and amazing cookies...
I could go on and on about the cookies and food.. I even have tried some of my MIL's cooking and have  tons of her recipes.. but for some reason it just tastes better when she makes it.. and youre at her house.. its good for the soul...
The cousins were reunited.. and cute as ever.

We originally planned on leaving on Saturday, but the weather was so nice, and we didnt have anywhere to be back home, so we stayed an extra day. We drove out to Trader Joe's .. the whole gang.. Baka and Papa too..

The kids had fun and there was a huge active construction site with cranes and all sorts of busy action for them to watch.. bonus!
The weather was around 55 and sunny, I got in a LONG run and it felt great after all the indulging I personally did while there..

Andrew got a new fisher price IXL from my Mom for Christmas and he loooooved it all weekend.
Sunday came and the kids were excited to get home and see Carl.
We gathered in the kitchen one more time all together
And indulged... again..
Buckwheat pancakes and sausage.. mmmmm
It was such a nice visit and a wonderful Christmas that Im so so thankful everyone was healthy for.
Until next year! Now its time to take down all the decorations and make way for the next holiday.. another fun favorite.. Valentines Day!

Hope you all had a great holiday season
xoxo

Annual Ohio Summer Trip

A few weeks back... yes I have been a blog slacker.
Its the lazy summer days we've been enjoying!

Ohio bound we were for the last weekend in June.
Samantha graduated UPK (Universal Pre-K) - a program that is so wonderful, I cant wait for Andrew to experience it. It is an amazing preporatory program for the big K next year, and free in our district.

They were sleeping beauties for a little while, which was nice.
We were celebrating Sam's 5th birthday as we always do in Ohio.
So naturally, Daddy spoiled Andrew too.. and surprised him with a new lawnmower or "boo" as he calls it. He's obsessed with a few things at his 2.5 year stage .. one of the top things are his "boos".. Yes he has more than one.

My mother in law is an amazing cook.
I've learned so much about baking and cooking from her.
She always makes sure she's well stocked with goodies for us. This time we were greeted by warm cheddar scones when we arrived.... ahhhh heavenly.
And she makes sure to have plenty of Andrew's food group on hand.
Bacon.
This trip with A was a hard one.
He slept terribly, which means so did I. But it was a record of terrible. Im talking up multiple times
EVERY
NIGHT
I have no idea why.
It was super hot when we were there, and the air was on, but I was exhausted.

Saturday we headed to the cousins house to celebrate
Sam & Julia's 5th
These girls have so much fun every time we get together.
Add caption
We had a nice bbq and cupcakes for the girls
Frozen cupcakes, complete with Frozen ring cupcake toppers
Andrew tried out some big boy undies this weekend ..
He just looks so hysterical wearing them
And Im sure its nice to take a break from wearing a diaper all the time.
She sure scored pretty awesome gifts for her 1st party.
I think in total we will be celebrating 4 times ... yes 4... numbers 2-4 to come soon.
Big guy scored some new construction vehicles, and a firehouse with firetruck.
Usually when Andrew is napping, I scoot to some of my favorite stores & malls..
I was too damn tired.. so you know it was true exhaustion.
I read some magazines, and made some to do lists and meal plans and nearly fell asleep in the sun
And just like that we were on our way home.
It was a quick visit...and in order to keep the peace, he had to hold his lawnmower in his lap for the last 45 minutes of the journey. Until next time Ohio!

Happy New Year from Ohio

New Year's Eve in Ohio

One resolution I hope this little guy is making ... is to drop this bottle habit.
He was hooked after he kicked my boobs out around 10 months and went right to drinking whole milk from one of these... Here's to 2014 and a bottle free Andrew.... I HOPE!

This lil girl was ready for a new year....

We stayed in since the weather was absolutely freezing...

My father in law had a cozy fire going.

And we sent 2013 away with a little pigging out
Fried Chicken Wings & Popper Dip for dinner... mmmm

We had BOTH children in bed by 8pm... BOTH... Maybe this is a sign of more sleep for all in 2014??? I surely hope so.

The four of us played UNO and drank wine until just after Midnight.
We hadn't done anything like this since before I was pregnant with Samantha, probably around 2008!
It was so much fun, and we made it till after midnight, which I never thought I would..

The rest of our time in Ohio was great.
There was a snowstorm heading for NY the day after new years.. so we decided to extent our stay through January 4th.

The kids didn't mind

More time for crafts..
More time for painting....

More time for stashing half-naked women in Papa's bed...

More cousin time.

More ice cream eating,.

And the night before we left, even Mama & Dad got out for a little Ohio State/drinks with friends.
It was a great end to a long vacation
